Temperature shift

We left a sunny, warm Hawaii for a sunny, cold, and snow- covered Korea. Certainly pictures only scratch the surface of the story these 3 weeks will be filled with. And frankly I'm purposefully not taking pictures of the less happy, cranky toddler moments (parents get cranky too when traveling and taking 12 hour flights :). But we are with family, eating kimchi, sleeping on a normal time schedule, and about to go sledding! There are many gifts and blessings along the way... even if that way is punctuated with our "less than desirable" moments as well. It's fun to look back through the pictures... even if they only tell part of the story.

Delicious fruit! Eating outside!

Long flights, nobody loves them, we survived

Hawaii day 2

I just can't imagine being on this trip without our boy. Moon and I just love traveling together as a family. And as our family grows that will logistically get more complex so all the more reason to enjoy it now! We learn so much about Eli and get so much joy in watching him in this lovely place. He's certainly enjoying it. Plus we have learned to not stay in hotels so we can eat in (renting places with a kitchen) and get the evenings to ourselves when he goes to bed. Last night we stayed up way too late watching a movie and lounging about. Moon has told me that we'll have to live near water for this ocean-loving boy of ours. He absolutely loves the waves! He wants to hold our hand but squeals when they crash on him. He runs right to the oceans edge, fearless of it. The water feels just right (far warmer than our pacific west coast!!) and we've been surprised how "hot" it feels out, sunny and 80s... we were in the water by 9 this morning! Moon tested out the body board and Eli and I went about as far in as I like to. This is such a lovely, quiet, and charming beach community. And we now have a bike with a child seat to use! A friend of a friend (moon has friends  everywhere I swear!) lent us their bike with a kids seat and helmet. Folks are friendly here, they seem to like mainlanders. The place we're staying has bikes but none can accommodate Eli. So this afternoon we'll go explore a bit...

Hawaii day 1

We made it!
To the destination but also through a long couple months of fall. All that work somehow now feels worth it as we watch our liitle boy squeal as he grabs fistfuls of sand and runs to the oceans edge. We're a short walk from the beach in a lovely cottage in Kailua (gorgeous beach!) and Eli slept great last night (no doubt thanks to a long day of travel by taxi, plane, city bus, and stroller!). He proves to be quite the traveler and seems to like the adventure of it all. Hope that lasts another couple weeks as we make our way to Korea!
